Q:
What is Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Photo-Rejuvenation Therapy?
A: IPL, as it is commonly called, is a treatment
using specific wavelengths of natural light energy to restore skin's normal
activity. Visible red light penetrates human tissue to a depth of about 8-10
millimeters. Skin layers, because of their high blood and water content,
easily absorb red light. Infrared light at 950 nanometers penetrates to a
depth of about 30-40 millimeters, which makes it more effective for bones,
joints, deep muscles, etc. Wavelength reactions occur throughout nature and
are involved in vision, photosynthesis, tanning and Vitamin D metabolism.
The red and infrared light -emitting diodes of the ILT stimulate and
progressively benefit physiological functions.

Q: What are the benefits of IPL Photo-Rejuvenation Light Therapy?
A: It is extremely beneficial in treating problems
close to the surface such as wrinkles, age spots, broken capillaries,
wounds, cuts, scars, trigger points, and has shown particular effectiveness
in treating infections. Back to top of

Q: How does
IPL Photo-Rejuvenation benefit the skin?
A: IPL Photo-Rejuvenation:
Increases circulation by increasing the
formation of new capillaries, which are additional blood vessels
that replace damaged ones. New capillaries speed up the healing process in
damaged skin by carrying more oxygen and nutrients needed for healing.
Stimulates the production of collagen.
Collagen is a major component of the connective tissue that creates
strength and flexibility in the skin. After age 30, the collagen levels in
our skin decrease, causing the formation of wrinkles. Sun damage, smoking,
stress and certain lifestyles can accelerate the loss of collagen and
elasticity.
Diminishes hyperpigmentation or age spots.
The photons of light energy enter areas of age spots and destroy the
melanin, which is gradually absorbed by the body. It is important also to be
regularly using a melanin inhibitor product and sun block to prevent further
spots.
Stimulates fibroblastic activity,
which aids in the tissue repair process. Fibroblasts are present in
connective tissue and area capable of forming collagen fibers.
Stimulates the healing process of wounds, ulcers
or inflamed tissue, helping to heal acne.
Stimulates the release of adenosine triphosphate
(ATP), which is the major carrier of energy to all cells.
Increases in ATP allow cells to accept nutrients faster and release waste
products faster. All food turns into ATP before the cells utilize it.
Intense Light Therapy allows cells to bypass the normal digestive and
respiratory process to acquire energy for repair and the production of
life-enhancing enzymes.
Increases lymphatic system activity and can
double the flow of the lymph drainage. Lymphatic drainage helps
to facilitate toxin removal and improves the skin circulation, resulting in
healthier skin.
Stimulates acetylcholine release,
which regulates parasympathetic effects such as resting respiration fate,
heart beat, digestive processes and vascular tissue dilation.
Increases phagocytosis, which is the
process of scavenging dead or degenerated cells, important in the
infection-fighting process. Back to

Q: Am I a good
candidate for IPL Photo-Rejuvenation?
A: While almost everyone can benefit from the use
of light therapy, these treatments will have the greatest impact on skin
with sluggish metabolism and slow cellular activity showing visible aging
signs. Individuals taking steroid or cortisone injections, who are pregnant
or have epilepsy should not use Light Therapy.

Q: Is Photo-Rejuvenation a good complement to other skin care treatments?
A: Yes, especially when paired with
Microdermabrasion which removes the hardened dead cells. The IPL wavelengths
can calm the skin and penetrate with better depth and intensity.

Q: Are they any adverse effects, and can I see results immediately after the
session?
A: There is no reported discomfort or side
effects. The skin looks different after the first treatment, smoother and
more hydrated, but more noticeable results are seen after the third and
fourth treatment. Back to top of page.
Q:
How long can I expect my results to last?
A: For best results, it is recommended that a
series of 4-6 sessions are scheduled 1 to 3 weeks apart (a 30- to 45-minute
session). After the original series, a once-a-month treatment is recommended
for lasting and cumulative results. Your IPL therapy can be administered as
part of any professional skin care treatment such as facials or maintenance
microderms. Back to top of page.
Q:
Can I put my makeup back on immediately or go out in the sun?
A: Yes, there is virtually no down time, but
please wear SPF. Your aesthetician will be working with you to determine
what products and treatments are best for your skin type.
